You can furnish your home with all brand-new items, but most interior designers will tell you that they mix old and new items. That’s what gives a house character, depth, and charm. Plus, antiques and secondhand items tend to be great conversation starters.
Portland has some wonderful antique and secondhand shops, so I’ve rounded up a list of some of the best. Ready to start your own treasure hunt?
1. Monticello Antique Marketplace
Monticello Antique Marketplace is huge. I’m pretty sure I could spend an entire day in this 20,000-square-foot store filled with over a hundred antique dealers, a library, and even a restaurant. This is the largest antique store in Portland, and it is truly a treasure trove of unique antiques that you won’t find anywhere else.
Make sure to spend time in the Salvage Garden showroom, which has plenty of pieces for your yard. You’ll also find the perfect home décor in this store no matter what your style is—Victorian, mid-century, or industrial. Plus, don’t miss Monticello Antique Market’s five special events each year, including the fall show (end of August and beginning of September) and the Vintage Christmas Show.
Info:
8600 SE Stark Ave.
Open Mon—Sat: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sun: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
2. Kenton Antiques
If you haven’t been to Kenton Antiques in North Portland, you definitely need to check it out. They’re well known for having incredibly reasonable prices. They sell furniture, games, books, toys, tools, and pretty much anything else you could want for your home.
This is the perfect place to go if you’re on a treasure hunt, which also makes it a wonderful place for the collector. If you’re after a certain item, the owner, Maureen, is happy to help you out (she describes herself as a long-time treasure hunter, also). They allow consignment options and trades for your existing items, and they also offer estate sale services.
Info:
8112 N. Denver Ave.
Open Wed—Sat: 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sun: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
3. Cargo
Cargo bills its employees as “purveyors of curious objects,” and they couldn’t be more correct about that. If you’re looking for a gift or décor item that’s offbeat, quirky, or unique, this is the place to go. Cargo prides itself in supporting local artisans and small manufacturers.
While the shop has a lot of new merchandise from all over the world, it’s on this list because of their selection of secondhand furniture, so be sure to check that out while you’re looking every which way at everything else. They also sell goods online, which is perfect for friends and family who don’t live in Portland. And be sure to check out events here.
Info:
81 SE Yamhill Street
Open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
4. Old Portland Hardware and Architectural
Old Portland Hardware and Architectural is not your typical antique store. It’s filled with all of those finishing touches that make a home look different from everybody else’s. They have a passion for well-made items that have stood the test of time. They believe that re-selling these items is good for the community and good for the environment.
The 10,000-square-foot showroom is filled with stained glass, vintage hardware, and antique light fixtures. Stop by often because they get new merchandise all the time, and you may just find something that you could never find again. You can also sell them your unusual old items. They note that they are often looking for items you may not consider valuable—that’s the beauty of this store.
Info:
1667 SE Tacoma Street
Open Tue—Sun: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
5. Cielo Home
Cielo Home is a gorgeous place (the world cielo means heaven, and that’s an apt descriptor for this spot). You’re just going to want to sit back, relax, and take in the ambiance. Cielo Home is not only an antique store but it also offers interior design services. This is a gorgeous and unique shopping experience you don’t want to miss on your secondhand adventures.
Cielo Home is an especially good place for elegant vintage furniture and decorative objects. The store also has some new items. And if you need help, the friendly owners are happy to give you a hand; they are very knowledgeable about the goods they sell.
Info:
528 NW 12th Avenue
Open Tue—Sat: 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sun: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
6. Thee Lucky Bastard Antiques & Desirables
You’re not going to forget a name like Thee Lucky Bastard Antiques & Desirables. Billed as a curio emporium, it includes a glorious selection of items you’d be highly unlikely to come across elsewhere.
This fun store includes a huge variety of modern clothing, home décor, and more. It specializes in pop culture pieces that are just the kind of thing to bring a whole lot of character to your home.
Info:
521 NE Davis St.
Open Tue–Sun: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
7. Salvage Works
Salvage Works is exclusively dedicated to all things wood. This is truly a one-of-a-kind place that offers heritage wood, wall cladding (used for accent walls), and handmade furniture that really highlights the beauty of the wood. Salvage Works is all about heirloom quality materials and top-notch craftsmanship.
Their inventory rotates regularly, so you’ll always have a shot at finding exactly the right wood for your project. Don’t miss the warehouse, full of rough-cut lumber, shiplap, beams, and more. You can purchase beautiful furniture, made from their stock of reclaimed lumber, straight from the showroom floor. You can also commission custom pieces. If you buy a piece of furniture from Salvage Works, let me just say that you are definitely going to be passing that baby down to your children or grandchildren.

8. Red Fox Vintage Woodstock
Red Fox Vintage Woodstock is actually a sweet collaboration of Portland’s top vintage vendors. Between them all, they pretty much have every vintage item you could ever want for you or your home.
Clothing, furniture, jewelry, décor, art, and other oddities are plentiful in this cohesive shop. Think of it as a well-organized treasure hunt. Even better, the prices are affordable.
